• Clover superintendent: Our schools are better off than most

    Lakefront vacation and rental property and Duke Energy’s Catawba Nuclear Station are the two biggest reasons the Clover schools have weathered several rounds of state budget cuts better than others in York County, the district schools chief said Wednesday.

    “We’re lucky because of all the second homes on the lake and we have Duke Power,” Clover Superintendent Marc Sosne told an audience of Greater Clover Chamber of Commerce members and elected officials during a “State of the Schools” address at Clover High School.

    Second homes, unlike primary residences, are not exempted from property taxes for school operations under Act 388 and are taxed at a 6 percent assessment rate.
