HERB CLASS

"Hanging Herb Garden," 10 a.m.-noon July 5, Visitor Pavilion Floral Design Studio, Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 S. New Hope Road, Belmont. The class includes a demonstration on creating a special two-tiered hanging basket, providing twice as many herbs to enhance your home and meals, taught by Duane Clerc, the garden's education specialist. GO CROCHET

Carolinas Chain Gang, a Chapter of the Crochet Guild of America, meet, 10 a.m.-noon July 5, Fort Mill Library, 1818 2nd Baxter Crossing, Fort Mill. This month , class continues on Tunisian crochet, focusing on color changes. Also known as afghan stitch, Tunisian is worked on a crochet hook but as in knitting, leaves the loops. HUCK'S DEFEAT

Battle of Huck's Defeat, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 12 and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. July 13, Historic Brattonsville, 1414 Brattonsville Road, McConnells. Three significant Revolutionary War battles will be reenacted including Huck's Defeat, which will take place near the actual site of the engagement. Historic music performances, firearms demonstrations, talks by noted experts, and camp life will be shown throughout the weekend. Younger visitors can explore the Children's Encampment area and try their hands at historic toys and games, and take part in military drills. Admission: adults, $10; seniors, $8; youth ages 4-17, $5. CELEBRACION LATINA

Salsa Fever hits Carowinds July 12-13 for the third annual Celebracion Latina featuring Latin music, singing and dancing competitions and authentic Latin food. Nickelodeon's Dora the Explorer and other NickToons will be on hand to celebrate the fun with the young members of the Latin community. As part of Carowinds community outreach efforts, $2 from every ticket sold will go toward funding Hispanic youth scholarships throughout the Carolinas. SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL
