Schools closed as snow falls on area

The Herald

Heavy rains turned into a steady snow Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for York and Chester Counties through 7 a.m. Monday.

All Rock Hill, York, Fort Mill and Clover schools are closed Monday for students and staff, according to Elaine Baker, spokeswoman for Rock Hill schools.

Snowfall totals will range from three to six inches with the deepest accumulations on grassy surfaces.

Power outages may result from a combination of sustained northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph and heavy wet snow. Temperatures falling below freezing tonight will result in black ice which will create hazardous driving conditions even where roads are not snow covered. Emergency officials recommend motorists avoid traveling. If you must travel, it is recommended that you carry a flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of emergency.
