Gastonia police say a love triangle led to a shooting death early Thursday in the middle of a major intersection.
Police have identified the victim as Michael Lee Willis, 23, of Gastonia. They have charged a 28-year-old Dallas man, Mikel Shannon Arms, with murder in the case.
According to police, Willis was in a car with a woman, identified as Arms' estranged wife, about 1:30 a.m. at the corner of West Franklin Boulevard and Bessemer City Road. Police say another man drove up in his truck and blocked Arms from pulling away.
The two men got into an argument, police say, and shots were fired. Willis died at the scene, and Arms was arrested by police. Gastonia police Sgt. Jimmy Arndt said the argument and shooting "appear to be domestic related."
