Wylie girl earns photo award

Lauren Baechel of Lake Wylie was named Thursday as one of the award-winners of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden’s sixth annual Shutterbug Photography Contest.
Baechel took second place in the youth 12 and younger category.
“We’re so excited and proud of her,” said mom Liz Baechel via e-mail.
The garden received more than 450 entries.
The judges for this year’s contest were Kent Smith of Kent Smith Photography and Peter Peter Zay of Peter Zay Photography. “Things Remembered Custom Framing…And So Much More!” of Gastonia sponsored the contest and also provided the matting and frames for the winning entries.
The winning photos will be on display in the Visitor Pavilion starting Friday, Feb. 5, during regular garden hours. Winning photos will be posted online at DSBG.org through mid-February.
The garden is located at 6500 S. New Hope Road in Belmont on Lake Wylie and is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Members are admitted free, $10 adults, $9 seniors 60 and old, and $5 children age 4-12. For more information, call 704-825-4490.
