Miracles happen thanks to kind folks

Miracles do happen.

There are some really good people in Lake Wylie and Fort Mill, and Easton, Conn., who helped a very needy family. They do not feel they need the thanks, but I want to extend it to them here.

The day after Thanksgiving, my housecleaner arrived home to find her Dallas, N.C., house and everything in it had burned to the ground. She, her four grandchildren (ages 4, 6, 8 and 11) and her mother were left with nothing but the clothes on their back. Her landlord was kind enough to find another place for them that night, and they were supplied cots and a few items to get them through the next couple of days. This grandmother works as a housecleaner in our community every day and takes good care of her family with the limited resources available to her. She could not afford fire insurance and needed help desperately.

The next day, an e-mail blast was sent to everyone in the social club, Avanti, I belong to in Lake Wylie. I asked for clothing for the children and anything that would help this grandmother’s immediate needs. The generosity and response from the Avanti group was overwhelming. Besides clothing, they gave money, gift cards for CVS, Wal-Mart, and supermarkets, more than I can mention.

Another Avanti member sent an e-mail to her two daughters, Jeanine Pagliaro in Easton, Conn., and Krista Long in Fort Mill. They sent out “magic” e-mails to their friends asking for help. More than 10 boxes of clothing, toys, gift cards, kitchen utensils, dishes, pots, and a toaster oven were shipped to this family. And, each day, another package arrives from someone.

Another member of Avanti is selling her beach home and donated furniture, drapes, home decor, everything needed to make a home warm and comfortable.

I would like to thank everyone for their help, support and immediate response to this family that so desperately needed a helping hand.

Their generosity is so greatly appreciated, and this family is very grateful for everything that was done for them.
