In my last article, the price of gas was steadily rising leaving me to wonder if this is a fishing economy?
My neighbors and I figure we love to fish competitively and for money. We are all from Lake Wylie and live right on the lake, so we decided to join forces and hold a bi-weekly tournament right off the docks from our private community’s marina. We had a few neighbors watching the competition who want to join the trail for the next event.
The tournament rules were simple: five fish weigh in from 6 to 9 p.m. with a 14-inch size minimum along with a side pot for big fish.
Eddy Morgan had the first fish at 6:30 p.m. I hit a dink at 7 p.m., then a catfish weighing 4 pounds at 7:30 p.m. Still Morgan was in the lead with a 1lb., 13oz. keeper.
Jerry Hayden hit two dinks in a row, then it was quiet until 8:30 p.m. The water splashed and I hit a 2-pound largemouth bass, and the pressure was on.
Edwin Morgan landed a good keeper about 8:45 p.m., then the nail was put in the coffin. I landed another keeper at 3 pounds and lost it right at 8:56 p.m.
This was my first victory.
It felt like I had just won the biggest tournament in my life. I look forward to Wednesday, June 1, when we compete again on our home lake, proving if you have a will, you will have a way.”
