York County Environmental Compliance Department would like to say “Thank You” to the following community partners that are participating in the York County Environmental Adopt-A-Stream and Storm Drain Marking Programs.

Adopt-A-Stream Program: Walmart Store 5745 in Lake Wylie, Crowders Creek Elementary School, Camp Thunderbird, The Landing HOA, and Lowes Store No. 2920 in Lake Wylie.

Storm Drain Marking Program: Walmart Store 5745 in Lake Wylie, Kodiak Mini-Storage in Lake Wylie, Crowders Creek Elementary School, Camp Thunderbird, Lowes Store No. 2920 in Lake Wylie and Girl Scout Troop 1300.

York County environmental programs were established to improve the quality of water in our lakes, rivers and streams. Cleaning-up and maintaining York County’s natural waterways are tasks that require cooperation and participation from government entities, industries, businesses and residents alike.

The Adopt-A-Stream Program allows York County residents to become watershed stewards by cleaning our waterways. York County encourages local businesses, civic organizations, churches, academic institutions, homeowner associations and scout groups to adopt a local stream, river or cove for the purpose of keeping them litter free.

The Adopt-A-Stream Program is easy and fun. In order to participate in the Adopt-A-Stream Program your group will need to commit to at least two clean-up events per year. York County will supply all the materials needed for your clean-up and you will even be awarded an Adopt-A-Stream sign.

The Storm Drain Marking Program was designed to raise citizen awareness and educate the public about the storm drains and their direct connection to our local streams, creeks and lake. Participants place the markers on or near the storm drains utilizing a strong adhesive, Again, anyone can participate and York County will supply everything needed to mark the storm drains.

If you and/or your business are interested in the any of the York County environmental programs, please contact York County Environmental Compliance Coordinator at 803-818-5145 or visit yorkcountygov.com/tyler to learn more.

Now, we finally have several participants in our programs, and we wanted to acknowledge them.

Carolyn B. Partin is environmental compliance outreach coordinator for York County.
