Editor’s top picks for 2011 People, Places & Things reader photo submissons

People, Places & Things has been appearing every week in the Lake Wylie Pilot for five years, thanks to the many photos from readers who continue to share their activities, sightings and views of Lake Wylie. We often hear it’s one of our readers’ favorite parts of the paper. We agree. It’s fun and exciting to get to see what you see.

These photos also have appeared as cover art for special section publications, and are used in the Pilot’s annual newcomer’s guide, Gateway to the Carolinas.

Photos also have highlighted odd sightings such as bugs shedding their skin, and rare views, such as raptors like hawks perched on the patio rail, and double rainbows and “UFO clouds” over Lake Wylie. We get to admire the beauty of our lake in sunrise and sunset photos through all four seasons, and enjoy the fun times we have living at the lake. We really are lucky to live in this place and among these people ... and things.

Going through the 52 weeks of photos published in 2011 for People, Places & Things, like every year, amazed me. It’s a challenge choosing only 10 favorites, but here are my top picks in no particular order with a brief reason why.

— Catherine Muccigrosso, Lake Wylie Pilot editor
