LAKE WYLIE --
The Catawba Catfish Club held its eighth of nine events April 14 with 16 boats, or 30 anglers, competing for a total pot of $600 at Ebenezer Access Area on Lake Wylie. The big fish reeled in $150.
We had cool temps at blast off and it turned out to be a very nice day weather-wise other than a steady wind blowing most of the day, said organizer Marty Greene. Nice weather this time of the year means one thing on Wylie, and that is pleasure boat traffic. They were out in full force making fishing tough, especially in the afternoon hours.
In the end, Team DMD - Mike and Roger Rape and David Catoe - pulled out the win with a three-fish stringer of 47.70 pounds and also getting the big fish with a 28.30-pound Blue.
Angler Mike Rape said as they were reeling in their lines at quitting time to head back to the weigh in, he picked up a rod to reel it in and the big fish hit on the way to the boat.
Team DMD also took over the points lead for the first time with one tourney left in the season.
The last tournament of the season will be May 12 at Lake Wateree State Park. Tournament hours will be from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., with weigh in at 3:30 p.m.
