Catfish club final sees firsts for top teams
The Catawba Catfish Club held its final tournament of the 2011-2012 season May 12 on Lake Wateree with 32 boats and 70 paying anglers, including several children, competing for a payout of $1,400 and a Big Fish pot of $320.
“We had perfect fishing weather for the day with a low of 50 degrees and a high in the mid-70s with a slight breeze blowing most of the day,” said event organizer Marty Green. “The bite was not real good for Wateree standards, but teams found some biting fish. The heavyweights seemed to take the day off.”
Team Craig took home the win out of 27 boats weighing in with 68.55 pounds. They earned $560 for the win and $320 for the Big Fish.
Team DMD won the Points Chase by capping it off with a third-place finish. They collected $423 for the win from the season long points fund.
For Team Craig, it was their first win, and Team DMD, it was their first point series title.
“This was their first championship after placing very high in last year’s chase,” Green said.
