CLOVER --
Clover’s Memorial Stadium field turf management and maintenance crew has been rewarded for hours of hard work by being named one of the best in the United States.
The field is one of 91 nationally and three regionally to be selected by Pioneer Athletics as a field of excellence.
“The turf is definitely in great shape,” said Jeff McAlister, a regional representative with Pioneer Athletics, during Friday’s presentation. “You can tell there is sports turf management, and not just watering and cutting. There’s some special stuff going on here. The facilities are very nice, and the field crew does a good job taking care of everything.”
“A lot of schools don’t put the time and effort into maintaining fields,” he said. “This is one of the top ones out there.”
This is the second honor this school year for the maintenance crew. The group was presented the “field of the year” award in the fall for the third consecutive year by the South Carolina Sports Turf Managers Association for having the best turf field in the state.
Crew members who maintain the field are Will Rogers, Frank Falls, Lee Clinton, Jamie Sciba, T.C. McCarter and Dean McCarter.
