Lake Wylie anglers weather summer patterns on trail

Trail takes a break this week; back on July 12

LAKE WYLIE --

Anglers weathered summer patterns during the Thursday Night Tournament Trail on Lake Wylie.

“We have reached the summer fishing patterns,” said tournament co-organizer Erwin Gaston. “The guys are catching fish with top water lures, shallow water fishing, mid-depth cranking and deep water spooning.

“The big fish have gone into hiding and heavy weights are hard to come by,” he said. “But it is fun.”

Mike Stephens and Sam Facella won June 28 with 11.68 pounds, nudging out the father-son team of Todd and Isaac Sosbee with 11.63 pounds.

As for the July 21 tournament, all Gaston could say was, “Where are the fish?”

In a field of 46 boats, 13 weighed in with the winners Brandon Chandler and Shawn Wallace topping the scale at 13.23 pounds.

Mark and Anthony Leech followed with 12.49 pounds and the big fish at 4.61 pounds. They also brought in the big fish June 28 at 3.54 pounds.

The Thursday Night Tournament Trail will be taking a break this week with no tournament July 5.

“We will be back on July 12 with eight more tournaments to go before the championship,” Gaston said.

Trail sponsors are Dicks Sporting Goods, A-1 Adams Bail Bond Agency, Lake Wylie Bait and Tackle, Shakey Head.Com, Jak’s Custom Baits, Koyote Fishing Tackle, Tru South Lures and The Great Outdoors. For more information, visit lwtt.org.
