FORT MILL --
Pastor Rammy Lybrand of Lake Wylie Lutheran Church and Donald Murfin, president of The Community Cafe Inc., today announced the planned opening of a new Community Cafe at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church, corner of Highway 160 and Gold Hill Road near Tega Cay. The grand opening is scheduled for July 27.
The Cafe will serve free lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays. Donations will be accepted.
“When I read The Community Cafe in Lake Wylie needed a new home, I just knew this was something that we could not allow to not continue,” Lybrand said. “I knew this was our calling. Our church council unanimously agreed. We all are so excited to be part of this great ministry.”
The Community Cafe started at River Hills Community Church in January 2010. The cafe served more than 33,000 free meals before having to relocated and serving its last meal in May at the venue.
“It has been such a joy serving our Lord in this ministry, and I am so excited the leadership and members of Lake Wylie Lutheran Church will be part of building a community that cares in the Lake Wylie-Fort Mill-Tega Cay area,” Murfin said.
In June 2011, a second cafe opened at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Fort Mill. That cafe has served more than 11,000 free dinner meals.
Both cafes provide in-house dining for fellowship and to share a meal. The cafes also offer take-out meals and delivery to shut-ins, as well as meals to The Children’s Attention Home in Rock Hill and York Place in York. The Adult Enrichment Centers of Fort Mill regularly came to the Lake Wylie location.
During meal service hours, a variety of other services are offered by local agencies, including:
• UniHealth, which provides blood pressure and blood sugar checks.
• Agape Senior Health, which offers senior health information.
• Parkinsons and Alzheimer’s associations, which help those caring for loved ones with the diseases.
• Free flu shots to those who have no insurance and cannot afford to pay.
