Camp Thunderbird is a gem

YMCA Camp Thunderbird Camp offers children an unforgettable summer adventure for sure.

Camp offers a host of water activities like canoes and kayaks, sailing, bouncing off “The Blob” or sliding into the lake, and all types of water sports like wakeboarding, wake skating, wake surfing, skiing and knee boarding.

On land, camp offers 28 activities including sports like inline skating and field hockey to baseball, golf and fishing and horseback riding. There also is archery, riflery, a challenge course, zip lines and wall climbs, as well as art, dance and cheer classes. Not to mention nature learning, leadership building and camaraderie.

It’s understandable children who go to camp, lake Michelle Azzarello, find it “magical.” Azzarello, now a counselor for camp, spent 12 summers there. ( See story on page 1B.)

We think Camp Thunderbird is an absolute gem.

In fact, Lake Wylie Pilot editorial board members, in fact, are a bit envious.

For fun, we’d like to propose Camp Thunderbird consider an adult camp – maybe just for a day into the night, possibly ending with a campfire, so adults can experience some of the fun. Perhaps the adult camp payment could help support sending a child to camp.
