Temple Solel celebrates Friday
FORT MILL Temple Solel, a Reform Jewish congregation, is currently offering High Holiday Services at Heritage International Ministries Conference Center, 375 Star Light Drive, at the following times:
• Shabbat Shuva: Sept. 21, 7 p.m.
• Kol Nidre: Sept. 25, 7 p.m.
• Yom Kippur: Sept. 26, 10 a.m.
Temple Solel will have a Torah and new Machzors, “On the Wings of Awe,” a fully transliterated prayer book. Donations cost $50 per person for all non-members and guests of members, for any or all services. Active military personnel, children and students younger than age 22 years are free of charge.
Beginning on Oct. 12, regular services will be held the second and fourth Friday night at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church Ministry Building, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill.

Temple Kol Ami posts services
FORT MILL Temple Kol Ami is preparing for the High Holidays with services to be held at Unity Presbyterian in the Historic Sanctuary, 303 Tom Hall St.
Services will be led by student Rabbi Ronda Young, assisted by Cantorial soloist Sara Sherman. Kol Nidre will be celebrated with Cellist Christina McDonald.

The Journey offers American Heritage series
LAKE WYLIE The Journey Church at Lake Wylie invites the community to David Barton’s video series, The American Heritage, running Sundays through Nov. 4. The series is appropriate for adults and children ages 12 and older.
The videos will be shown 9:15-10 a.m., with The Journey church service following from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Crowders Creek Elementary School, 5515 Charlotte Hwy.

Rosemond to speak in Gastonia
GASTONIA The Gaston County Faith Network is hosting its annual meeting from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Sept. 25 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 805 S. York St.
The group – made up of 18 houses of worship, nine care-giving agencies and five government agencies – will present nationally syndicated columnist and family psychologist John Rosemond as the keynote speaker. His topic will be “Parenting with Love and Leadership.” coincides with one of GFN’s core beliefs that solid parenting leads to stronger families.
There also will be updates from the health department’s Chris Dobbins, Gaston Youth Connection’s Sally Swanson and St. Michael’s Catholic Church’s Jack Weisenhorn, each addressing how their groups’ collaborative efforts have enhanced GFN’s mission of better serving people in need.

Burks named
as faith leader
GASTONIA The Gaston County Faith Network announces Dwayne Burks will lead the group as its new facilitator.
Burks, the current pastor of Bethany Baptist Church, was previously involved with Gaston Together and The Community in Schools programs, where he realized the need for more interaction among families and the community. Learning of GCFN, he knew it was a group in which he could get involved and become passionate about. Two years later, he has been appointed to lead the group and is excited about its growth and focus.
“For over a decade, our group’s founder has challenged us to ‘Do something.’ If each one will do something, everyone wins and problems are resolved,” said Burks, adding that churches can help while remaining committed to their own beliefs,
