LAKE WYLIE --
Hundreds flocked to the lake Sunday for the 10th annual Lake Wylie Childrens Charity Benefit Concert. None arrived in grander style, though, than Luke Moore.
The 3-year-old arrived at Buster Boyd Access Area by fire truck, thanks to the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department. After playing some of the games, Luke was called onstage by the Moses Jones band, which supports drumstrong. Luke and mom Crystal took center stage playing drums and waving to the cheering crowd.
Were very happy with a large early crowd, said David Mathein of T-Bones on the Lake about the event that ran from 12:30 p.m. until dark.
It just shows our community cares.
Along with a daylong lineup of bands, the event included a silent auction, childrens play zone and bake sale to raise money for Luke, who has leukemia.
The event extends beyond Lake Wylies borders, too.
If Im gonna spend money today, Id rather spend it here, said Kelly Clark of Kannapolis, N.C.
This a great event to support, and its beautiful out here.
