River Hills Lions' Oct. 13 dinner raises money for EMS

Annually the River Hills Lions Club benefit dinner turns into one of the biggest fundraisers around, aiding its local emergency response service. This year it’s grown even beyond having to attend the dinner to participate.
The event takes place at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at River Hills Country Club. All money goes to River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS. Included are a live and silent auction with nearly 150 items. Tickets are $80 and include the surf and turf dinner.
For the first time, participants can bid on auction items prior to the event online, and don’t have to be present to win.
“People can actually shop and bid from home,” said club member Lee Kehler.
Items are listed at riverhillslionsyellowpages.org. Guests can email bids using the information there, allowing the entire community to participate and help the squad.
“There’s a whole demographic that’s younger and, hey, there are boats and sailboats,” Kehler said. “It gives them an opportunity to get in the action.”
Included are signed and numbered paintings, sculptures, vacations, jewelry, watercraft, wine baskets and other valuables. Often, Kehler said, at a considerable value for anyone furnishing a home or just looking for a gift or treasure.
