YORK Sirens located around Catawba Nuclear Station will be tested at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10.
No public action is required during this three-minute test. By testing the sirens, state and county officials and Duke Energy ensure the sirens are operating properly. This full-cycle siren test is performed once each quarter. County emergency officials are responsible for sounding the sirens.
Hearing a siren does not mean to evacuate. The siren sounding is a signal for residents to tune to a radio or TV station in their area that would carry an emergency alerting message. County officials would use these stations to provide information to the public.
Library board meeting Thursday

LAKE WYLIE Two candidates forums with York County Council District 2 candidates incumbent Bruce Henderson (R) and challenger John Rinehart (I) are planned Oct. 16.
Lake Wylie Rotary Club will host a debate from noon to 1 p.m. during its regular Tuesday meeting at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 5220 Crowders Cove Lane. Allan Gregory will moderate, and questions also will be fielded from audience members.

Local officials team up as role models
YORK COUNTY Sheriff Bruce Bryant of the York County Sheriff’s Office and Kevin Brackett of the York County Solicitor’s Office partner with youth pastors, business people and current and former NFL players to sponsor a monthly speaker program for at risk juveniles ages 13-16.
The program will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. the third Thursday of the month at Rock Hill District 3 Office, 515 South Cherry Road.
County awarded emergency funds
ROCK HILL The United Way of York County has been chosen to receive $140,334 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in York County.
The selection was made by a National Board chaired by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for local Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds should download the application at unitedwayofyc.org. Applications are due by noon Oct. 18.
United Way of York County has previously given money to: Clover Area Assistance Center, Fort Mill Care Center, People Attempting to Help, Pilgrims’ Inn and The Salvation Army.

Art exhibits in Rock Hill
ROCK HILL An exhibition of art assembled from seven private collections from around York County is on display at the Dalton Gallery at the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St., through Nov. 4.
The opening reception will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 18, and is free and open to the public.
This show includes sculpture, printmaking, painting, drawing and mixed media from artists as prolific as Salvador Dali and artists as local and homegrown as Harriet Goode.
The Center for the Arts Perimeter Gallery is displaying artwork by Columbia-born, Charlotte- based artist, Nico Amortegui, in the Perimeter Gallery.
His work, filled with bold color and implied facial features, has been compared to Jean-Michel Basquiat and Pablo Picasso.
In the Lewandowski Classroom Gallery will feature the Children’s Fall Show sponsored by Elliot Close.
