Lake Wylie’s only Japanese steakhouse on Charlotte Highway may have closed, but two new Asian restaurants are coming soon.
Sakura, which had changed its name from Sasaki Japanese Steakhouse earlier this year at Plantation Square, closed the end of last month. Ken Bozeman, owner of the center, said it had been located there for about 10 years, but changed hands several times.
Now, the building is being renovated to soon be home to a Chinese restaurant, he said.
“We’re going to remodel the whole building and decks,” Bozeman said.
He expects the upscale Chinese restaurant to open in January.
Plantation Square neighbors are happy to see the renovations, including the new deck offering a view of other stores in the center “tucked in the valley.”
“We’re excited,” said Pam Bare of nearby Magnolia House florist shop at 4052 Charlotte Hwy. “It’s going to bring more people who don’t normally come here and hopefully, they’ll see we’re here.”
Bozeman said an African-American beauty shop is coming soon, too.
“There are a lot changes going on out there,” he said. “Hopefully, it will be good for the whole area.”
But Lake Wylie won’t be without Japanese fare, or the dining experience of Hibachi-style cooking. At Lakeside West shopping center, Cherry will serve “Asian fusion” fare, said manager Amy Nicholson.
“We’ll have Chinese, Japanese and Thai,” she said.
Currently under construction in a former Chinese restaurant location at the center, Nicholson said Cherry will have a full bar and “Hibachi fine dining with a show in front of you,” as well as order menu items.
Cherry should open in six weeks, Nicholson said, and is currently accepting applications and resumes for servers, bar tenders and hostesses. Email cherry.lakewylie@gmail.com.
