A consortium of South Carolina colleges including York Technical College, will receive $14.1 million grant to develop programs focused on advanced manufacturing.
U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis announced the SC Accelerate partnership at Greenville Technical College. Other consortium members are Spartanburg Community College, Technical College of the Lowcountry, Tri-County Technical College, Trident Technical College, and Clemson University’s Center for Workforce Development.
Project activities include adult postsecondary transition centers to help adult learners get on a career track, comprehensive academic and skill assessments; new methods to deliver instruction, assistance for entrepreneurs potentially including online coursework, and improving ways to transfer credits to others schools.
York Technical College President Dr. Greg Rutherford said, the new project “will provide current and potential new employers in York, Chester, and Lancaster counties with a pipeline of people with advanced manufacturing skills — the kinds of skills that will move our region’s economy forward.”

Dr. Jamey Underwood recently attended a continuing education course on Kinesio taping, Fundamental and Advanced Kinesio Taping in Monroe, N.C. Kinesio tape is best known for being seen on Olympic athletes, in particular on the shoulders of the beach volleyball players. The tape can be applied to reduce pain, support or relax muscles, decrease swelling or bruising, and more. Some common ailments treated with Kinesio tape include plantar fasciitis, low back pain and knee pain. The tape is used on all ages, and both athletes and sedentary individuals can benefit from wearing the tape. It is waterproof and can be worn for up to 5 days.
Progressive Physical Therapy opened in Rock Hill in January. The company has 21 clinics throughout South Carolina, with the Rock Hill location being the first in the company’s new Piedmont region. Dr. Underwood has a bachelors' degree in Exercise Physiology from West Virginia University and her doctorate degree in physical therapy from the University of Central Florida.
