While the American Revolution of 1776-1783 created the United States, the Civil War of 1861-1865 determined its future.
Encounter glimpses of history through interpreters and re-enactors as they portray scenes from the largest and most destructive conflicts in the Western world Oct. 27-28 on the grounds at Hightower Hall at Historic Brattonsville, 1036 Brattonsville Road.
Through battle reenactments, cannon-firing demonstrations, camp life activities, cavalry presentations and military drills, relive some of the experiences that ravaged American soil and the lives of the people who lived during the time. Battle reenactments will be at 2 p.m. each day.
Come into contact with ladies and gentlemen dressed in period clothing, observe artillery demonstrations and learn how to become a soldier on both days. At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, witness an 1860s wedding. At 11 a.m. Sunday, take part in an 1860s church service. Civil War reproduction items and family-friendly foods will be available for purchase.
Ticket holders also can visit the historic Col. William Bratton house and grounds at Historic Brattonsville at 1444 Brattonsville Road. Costumed interpreters will be available as guides.
Admission costs $8 for adults; $6 for seniors; $4 youth ages 4-17; free for CHM members and children 3 and younger. The Civil War Reenactment is sponsored by Ann and Vernon Terry.
