Unbeaten CHS enters playoffs

CLOVER -- 

The Clover High School girls tennis team, unbeaten and champions of Region 3-AAAA, began playoff action last week as a No. 1 seed.

The Lady Blue Eagles were 15-0 entering the playoffs and ranked among the state’s elite.

“The kids are working hard and competing at a high level,” head coach Renee Farris said.

“They have already reached one of their goals in winning the Region 3-AAAA championship,” Farris said. “The key is to stay focused every match. We would like to make a deep run into the playoffs.”

Senior mainstay Kate Stewart, the No. 1 singles player, said the Lady Blue Eagles have reached expectations and strive for continued success.

“Even though we won the region the last couple years, it always feels good to do it again,” Stewart said. “Winning is a source of pride for our team members.”

Stewart said she’s playing consistent tennis at this stage.

“I’ve worked on all aspects of my game,” she said.

As a senior, Stewart has raised the bar for the remainder of the season.

“I would like for our team to win the upper state and advance to the state finals,” she said. “It would be exciting to play for a state championship.”

Harriett Hall, the team’s No. 2 singles player, continues to work hard to maintain her slot. A sophomore, Hall has worked her way up to No.2 singles in her second year of varsity tennis.

“I’ve improved in all areas of the game,” she said following last week’s practice round at the CHS courts. “The team is winning. We still have goals to reach in the playoffs.”
