Hair, body care spa opens in downtown York

Byron & Holly’s is across from City Hall

— Holly Fisk enjoys helping her clients both look good on the outside and feel good inside.

Fisk, 41, and her husband, Byron, 50, are the owners of Byron & Holly’s, a new hair and body care studio at 5 N. Roosevelt St., across from City Hall in downtown York. The studio offers hair and nail care and a variety of massage and skin care services — including aqua chi and ear coning.

Holly Fisk is a Chester native who has about 20 years’ experience in cosmetology, and about eight years as a massage therapist. Byron, who works at Duke Energy, is also a part-time massage therapist at the studio, she said.

Holly Fisk said she and her mother, Gwen Hammond, operated Natural Touch in Chester for many years. When her mother moved out of state, Fisk knew she wanted to continue work in her own cosmetology studio.

“I needed a place where I had enough space to continue doing everything that I love doing,” Fisk said. Because she lives in McConnells, she decided to move her business to York.

Fisk said she had been offering hair care services for a dozen years before she became certified as a massage therapist. She believes that expanding her services gave her “a profound understanding” about the importance of both feeling healthy and looking good.

A few years later, Fisk said she also became interested in aqua chi, a foot bath attached to a high frequency machine that is said to heal and energize a person. Some people believe that it removes toxins from the body.

Beverly Martin, one of Fisk’s customers, is a believer. Martin, who said she sometimes has trouble sleeping, believe the aqua chi helps her with sleeping and makes her feel better. “When I have one of those,” Martin said of the aqua chi treatments, “I sleep so well. It’s wonderful.”

Fisk also offers ear coning, a service popular in Europe, that involves cleaning out excess wax in the ear tubes by lighting one end of a hollow candle and placing the other end in the ear canal.

Fisk said that the response has been good. “It’s been fantastic,” she said. “I already had a client base and those clients are coming to this new location, which I’m grateful for. And I’ve had a lot of new response, too.”
