As Pastor Randall Odom and his wife, Deborah, get ready for their congregation to show up to a Wednesday night Bible study, the two reflected on what it took to get to this point.
The Odoms and members of Grace Church of the Carolinas, formerly in south Charlotte, had to face many obstacles while moving to their new location in Regent Park.
“The building was actually used for a school before, so the sanctuary was all divided into classrooms,” said Deborah Odom, wife of the church’s head pastor. “We had to come in and take down all of the walls, and we did the carpeting and rewiring for sound.”
With the building now ready for use, the congregation, about 75 members strong, looks forward to growing its attendance and outreach efforts.
“It’s a very central location for Fort Mill as well as Indian Land,” said Veva Moss of Van Wyck, a member of Grace since it began in 2009. “We’re a very close church family, and we are really happy to be in a place where we can grow.”
Grace Church of the Carolinas is also encouraging the community through men and women’s Bible studies and various outreach programs. The members minister at local nursing and children’s homes, and they even conduct a prison ministry with Kershaw Correctional Institution.
“We’ve been working in the community and letting the people know we’re here,” said Pastor Odom when asked about these endeavors.
Members of the congregation have been reaching out in all parts of the surrounding communities, spreading the word that Grace Church of the Carolinas has a new door, and it is always open.
