CLOVER Garrett Hills, a Clover High School senior, won the 50-yard freestyle individual state championship at the S.C. High School Leage championships at the University of South Carolina.
His time of 20.83 seconds nearly match the 12-year old state record of 20.78. He also covered the 100-yard freestyle distance in 45.88 seconds to set a new state record en route to winning the state title.
Morgan Rulevich, a sophomore, captured a state title in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:06.79 and added a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.41 seconds.
John Slavens finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke. Hills, Slavens, Charles Graham, and Braxton Shuler teamed together to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:13.03.
Clover team conference champs
CLOVER The Clover Middle School eighth-grade volleyball team claimed the conference championship for the second year in a row. The team finished with a record of 7-3 in the conference.
The team also came in second place in the gold bracket of Rock Hill High School’s annual Bearcat Volleyball Tournament. The team is coached by Emily Boykin and Paige Ferguson.

CHARLOTTE Registration for the 12th annual 24 Hours of Booty presented by Levine Cancer Institute will kick off at 10 a.m. Dec. 4. All participants must register online at 24hoursofbooty.org.
The annual charity noncompetitive cycling event for all ages and cycling abilities is scheduled to roll on the “Booty Loop” in Charlotte’s Myers Park neighborhood from 7 p.m. July 26 to 7 p.m. July 27. To safely accommodate riders on the 3-mile closed course, event registration will be capped at the first 1,200 registrants.
To participate in the event, each rider is required to pay a $65 registration fee and raise a minimum of $400 before the ride.
In 24 Hours of Booty’s 11-year history, more than 11,000 riders have raised more than $8.4 million.

Run Lake Wylie’s 5K for charity
LAKE WYLIE Lake Wylie’s Santa Sleigh 5K and kids 2.5K races will be at 8 a.m. Dec. 15 at The Landing neighborhood to benefit Clover High School AFJROTC and Project UNIFY for the Special Olympics. Cost is $20 for the 5K, $15 for 2.5K.
