Lakeside West’s newest opening should take place before year’s end, with the addition of Sherwin-Williams.
Marleea Sabol-Hall of Lake Wylie will manage the paint shop, which will employ four people. She expects to be open within weeks.
“We’re shooting for mid-December,” she said. “We don’t have a concrete date.”
Sherwin-Williams offers indoor and outdoor paints, design ideas and help for painting projects. The nearest stores are in Gastonia and Fort Mill.
“I really wanted this store, because it’s in my community,” said Sabol-Hall, who has been with the company for 17 years. “I live here. This is where my family is.”
The Lakeside West location brings “pretty amazing” traffic figures, she said, and a focus solely on paint should help create a market. The expertise in paint and design recommendations, along with the Sherwin-Williams line of products, will bring in customers despite nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement in Mill Creek Commons and Home Depot at RiverGate, Sabol-Hall said.
“We feel like there’s enough business in the area,” she said. “Our services are a little different.”
The long-vacant shopping center that’s now Lakeside West continues its growth. Already up and running are Lake Wylie Bowl N’ Bounce, a YMCA branch and i-Color Nail Bar.
Cherry, an Asian fusion restaurant on the opposite end from Sherwin-Williams, is accepting applications. Ben Wang, partner with the restaurant, said they are in the final stages of permitting. He expects an opening “maybe before Christmas.”
Between Bowl N’ Bounce and the YMCA will be Fuzzy Peach Frozen Yogurt Bar. Tom Maskell, director of franchising with the Wilmington, N.C., company, said the Lake Wylie shop will be its farthest expansion to date. Fuzzy Peach has eight locations in the Carolinas and plans for eight more, including sites in Fort Mill and Rock Hill in addition to Lake Wylie.
Most of the Wilmington locations are near water and year-round, a model Maskell sees working in Lake Wylie.
“We’re aiming, hopefully, for January, February, somewhere in there,” he said of the opening. “The sooner the better, obviously.”
