PES teams shoot for wins
STEELE CREEK Palisades Episcopal School’s varsity basketball team Gryphons Basketball is now 5-1 for the season, after defeating The John Crosland School Eagles Dec. 10 with a final score of 58-23. Grant Stadler and Max Gilbert led the team to victory. Stadler scored 30 points and Gilbert scored a season-high 18 points. Henos Sium also got into the action by scoring his season high. The Gryphons played St. Michael Catholic School the following day. This game was a battle of two 5-0 undefeated teams. The Gryphons fought hard for four quarters but lost to the Eagles. The rematch was set for Monday at Life Pointe Christian Church in Fort Mill. In the Dec. 4, the won against the defending conference champions, United Faith Christian Academy with Caiden Biggers and Parker Manly stepping up defensively, while Grant Stadler and Max Gilbert led the Gryphons in scoring.
The Gryphons Junior Varsity Basketball Team also lost one game but won another last week. The team traveled to Countryside Montessori School Dec. 10 and came back from an early deficit. Despite the comeback, the Gryphons missed a last second three pointer, which would have sent the game into overtime. Ethan Puno led the team with a season-high 17 points. The following day, the team took on the St. Michael Catholic School Eagles and played its best basketball to date. The Gryphons beat the Eagles, bringing the team’s overall record to 2-4 with four games left to play.
