New store brings home businesses to Clover’s Main Street
Home businesses find a niche for goods

Siopa on Main offers home-based business owners a place to sell their wares. It’s also a place where Clover shoppers can find everything from the ordinary to the unique.
Siopa on Main — the word siopa means shop in Irish, or Gaelic — opened last month in half of the former Kirsh Department Store at 112 S. Main St.
It sells handmade items such as quilts, jewelry and crafts, plus vintage glassware and linens and more.
“It’s a good place for a wide variety of things, from handmade items to purchased gifts like the Tupperware and the Avon,” said Clover resident Mary Goforth, who owns the shop with Andrea Meglii.
The shop also sells items on consignment and has vendor spaces available for people who have items they want sell, but who don’t want to shoulder the expense and responsibility of operating a store, Goforth said.
“It gives small, home-based business owners a place to have their items for sale,” she said. “They don’t have to be there. We handle everything for them, so it’s just a matter of getting their space.”
Meglii, who enjoys making refinished furniture and other crafts, was the owner of Crafty, Crafty, a shop located further south on Main Street. She and Goforth teamed up on the new venture they hope will offer a wide appeal.
They also want to promote shopping in downtown Clover.
“We’re trying to get people to think differently about downtown Clover,” Goforth said.
“There are things here, and we just need to remind people they’re here. Downtowns are offering more of the artsy, crafty stuff.”
Goforth makes homemade jewelry, and her husband make bird houses and paracord bracelets, which are colored braided and woven jewelry items popular among teens.
Goforth said the shop has eight vendors who have booths and about eight other people who are selling items on consignment.
“We’re still looking for vendors,” she said.
The shop also offers wreaths and bows, scrapbook items, cards, some antiques, small furniture items, vintage linens and christening gowns and more.
