LAKE WYLIE Marco D. Ward, 10, of Lake Wylie and member of River Hills Tennis Club, won the A.C. Nielsens New Years Kick Off tournament Dec. 29 in Chicago.
Marco used a strong ground game to defeat Timothy Hidalgo of Chicago 6-1,6-1 in the final round of this U.S. Tennis Association sanctioned event.
Marco is a fourth-grader at Crowders Creek Elementary school.

Adult league sign-ups begin
CLOVER A managers rules meeting for Clover adult league will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at Clover Community Center, 120 Bethel St.
Player registration for ages 16 and older is under way. Cost is $250 per team/$75 three-game referee deposit. Individual registration costs $65. All fees and team entry forms are due at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22.
The leagues tentative starting date is Feb. 4. Games will be played Mondays and Thursdays at Blue Eagle Academy or Clover Middle School.
