Oakride Middle School Academic Team wins match
LAKE WYLIE The Oakridge Middle School Academic Challenge Team hosted Gaffney Middle School in the first match of the season.
The eighth-grade team won by a score of 130-50 with JD Davidson scoring 60 points and Elizabeth Delanghe scoring 50.
The seventh grade won by a score of 220-40. Anderson Moore was the high scorer with 100 points followed by Gabriel Patrautanu with 60 points.
Congratulations to both teams for an outstanding start to the season.
The next match will be at home Jan. 30; the Golden Eagles will face cross-town rivals Clover Middle School and Indian Land Middle School.
Certified teacher info sessions slated
Community information sessions are scheduled in Lake Wylie and Fort Mill to counsel career-changers on how to become certified teachers in South Carolina.
If you have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, The American Board provides an opportunity to become a qualified teacher through a state-sanctioned, alternative route to educator certification.
Hourlong sessions will be held:
• Feb. 2 at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Lake Wylie Public Library.
• Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Lake Wylie Public Library.
• Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Fort Mill Public Library.
According to the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention and Advancement, the state of South Carolina experienced a 60 percent increase in teaching job vacancies in the 2012-2013 school year, entering September with 272 vacant full-time positions.

Choraliers serve breakfast Feb. 2
CLOVER Clover High School Choraliers Country Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Feb. 2 at the school cafeteria, and includes a Choraliers performance.
Tickets cost $7 and includes all you can eat eggs, biscuits, hash browns, bacon, grits, juice and coffee.
Tickets may be purchased at the door. Dine in or carry out available.
Christmas Concert DVDs are available for purchase for $15.

Applications accepted for Clover scholarship
CLOVER Clover native Lelia Jackson will award the first LANDIS Scholarship to a Clover High School senior.
Jackson, a 1983 graduate of CHS, named the scholarship after her father Landis Jackson, who worked in Clover School District for several years.
Students applying for the LANDIS (Lifting And Navigating Determined Inspired Students) Scholarship must demonstrate a financial need, a 3.0-grade point average and community service.
Students can see a Clover High School guidance department for more information or email Laajacks@aol.com.
Applications are due to the Clover High School guidance department by April 1.
