Police: Burglar climbed through ceiling at Lake Wylie restaurant

LAKE WYLIE Police believe someone climbed through a ceiling vent to break into a Lake Wylie restaurant last week, leaving behind a bent attic fan, backpack carrying a used toothbrush and at least $500 in damage.

Around midnight Friday, the owner of Warren’s Grill, a restaurant connected with a gas station and convenience store on Charlotte Highway, told deputies he received a call from his alarm company telling him the alarm inside the store was activated.

When he went inside, he found a backpack on the floor and noticed that an attic fan leading into the store through the ceiling was bent, according to a York County Sheriff’s report. The only thing inside the bag was a used toothbrush.

Police found that the metal attic vent had been removed and tossed to the ground, the report states. After finding that one of the blades was bent upward and about three blades were missing, police said it appeared that someone tried to enter the store through the damaged fan.

Nothing else was stolen or disturbed, the report states, but police estimate that the burglar caused $500 in damage to both the fan and vent.
