YORK — Lap Tech Industries, a York manufacturer of precision components, has announced a $4.5 million investment expected to generate 60 new jobs.
The firm plans to expand into a building in the East York Industrial Park.
The announcement was made by the S.C. Department of Commerce.
The company manufactures components for customers in the automotive, electronics, appliance and metal stamping industries. The company provides precision finishing services such as grinding, lapping, polishing and precision cleaning to its customers.
The company will be moving into a newer, larger building to expand its precision finishing operations and add additional capabilities. Future planned capabilities also involve precision fabrication and metal forming.
The new building is expected to be ready by early summer. The company said it plans to begin hiring for the new operations in March.
“We are excited to be growing our operations here in York County,” said Ramon Guzman, president of Lap Tech Industries.
“This expansion is an important step for our company and will help us to extend our reach and meet the demands of new customers.”
He added that South Carolina “has continued to provide us with the right business environment in which to operate. We appreciate all the support we’ve received from state and local officials.”
The state Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved a Governor’s Closing Fund grant of $200,000 for building upfit.
York County Council Chairman Dr. Britt Blackwell said: “York County is excited that Lap Tech Industries is expanding their precision finishing operations and workforce into an existing building in the East York Industrial Park in York.”
He said the company “represents the best of small business in South Carolina and we look forward to growing with them as they continue to lead the path of an emerging optics industry.”
