Oakridge Middle School had a great day at the conference tournament Jan. 26. With 10 teams in the conference, OMS finished fourth. Oakridge entered 16 wrestlers in the tournament and six of them wrestled for medals in the championship or consolation finals: Austin Oldenburg, 92 lbs. conference champion - gold; Wyatt Emory, 140 lbs. conference champion - gold; William Emory, 128 lbs. conference runner-up, second place - silver; Hunter Vowell, 147 lbs. third place - bronze; Bent Prikker, 92 lbs., fourth; and Clint Jenkins, 169 lbs., fourth.
BASKETBALL
• The eighth-grade girls Oakridge Middle School team continued their playoff run Jan. 31beating Dutchman Creek 39-22. The Lady Golden Eagles took a 13-5 lead over the Lady Gators after one quarter of play. Taylor Morneault led the opening offense, scoring 11 of the first 13 points for Oakridge. OMS extended the lead to 10 points, leading 21-11 at the half, with Lilly Wallace scoring 6 points and Tiffany Mendez tallying 2 points in the quarter. OMS turned up the defensive pressure in the third period, only allowing 4 total points, and taking a 13 point lead, 28-15 into the fourth and final period. Oakridge would close out the game in style with Lilly Wallace draining a jump shot at the buzzer leading to the final score of 39-22. Scoring for Oakridge were: Taylor Morneault, 15 points, 4 steals, 4 assists; Lilly Wallace, 15 points, 11 rebounds; Tiffany Mendez, 6 points, 4 steals, 2 rebounds; Erika Drutis, 2 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists; and Joelle Keffer, 1 point, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks.
• The seventh-grade OMS girls team traveled to Rawlinson Road on Jan. 28 for the conference cross-over game. The team again started slow falling behind 8-0. The Golden Eagles stormed back in the second half and sent the game into overtime when Brenna Allen sank 2 free throws with 4 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the girls couldn’t hit enough shots in overtime and lost 23-20. Amber Lipscomb scored 6. Madison Lybrand and Brenna Allen each had 5, while Sarah Archer and Kendra Hickman added 2 each.
