• The eighth-grade Oakridge Middle School girls lost a hard-fought game Feb. 4 against No. 1 seed York, 25-19. The Lady Golden Eagles were down by 7 points early in the ball game but refused to quit, tying the game in the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately, the ladies didn’t have enough left in the tank to pull out the win.
• The eighth-grade boys battled it out Feb. 4 with Clover for the third time this season. Oakridge got the best of Clover the first two times, but this time, the Blue Eagles defeated Oakridge and brought the Golden Eagles 10-game winning streak, and the season, to a screeching halt. Clover shot the ball better than any team OMS faced all season.
The Golden Eagles turned the ball over too often, and the Blue Eagles took advantage. The final score was 51-41. This was only second time this season Oakridge defense gave up more than 34 points (both times were losses). Scoring for Oakridge: Wally Wilmore, 20 pts, 3 steals, 3 rebounds; Parker Largen, 10 pts, 3 rebounds, 2 assists; Cole Hybarger, 9 pts, 6 rebounds, 3 steals; Ashanti Long, 2 pts.; Wade Summer, 4 rebounds; Joe Glover, 5 rebounds, 2 steals; and Matt Ringler, 2 assists. The boys’ final record was 10 wins and 2 losses. The Golden Eagles were also the first ever basketball team from OMS to earn a division championship.
