LAKE WYLIE Carol Butler of Lake Wylie will have a play in Theatre Charlotte’s upcoming event at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, themed Forbidden Love, at 501 Queens Road.
Four actors – Della Freedman, Zendyn Duellman, Sy Arden and Laura-Nelle Parnell – will perform Butler’s play.
There will be other works performed by local artists, a cash bar and a free raffle as part of the “just do it” themed reading and performance series.
Tickets cost $5, plus cat food donations accepted. Tickets are available at the door.
Citizens’ Police Academy extends start date
YORK COUNTY Registration for the 2013 class of the York County Sheriff’s Office Citizens’ Police Academy class has been extended.
Citizens’ Police Academy will run for eight sessions from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays, March 4-May 20. It will end with a formal graduation.
The Citizens’ Police Academy class is open to adults, ages 18 and older, and is free.
The Citizens’ Police Academy will introduce participants to the functions of the York County Sheriff’s Office and will feature instruction by staff from the different divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. The goal, in addition to providing an overview of the Sheriff’s Office, is to create meaningful partnerships with York County residents.

ROCK HILL The York County Community Foundation is accepting applications from eligible nonprofit organizations, congregations, governmental and educational institutions for its 2013 grants program.
Priority will be given to arts and culture, education, environment, health and human services.

Clover Premiere Party Saturday
CLOVER Tickets are now available for the town of Clover’s Premiere Party at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Larne Building in downtown Clover. The party is part of the town 125th anniversary celebration.
The new “Clover 2012” movie will make its debut at the party.
In addition, a new Clover Hall of Fame will be unveiled with a Clover Through the Years exhibit. The event will include heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

Support group starting for MS
A support group is starting in Lake Wylie for people with MS. It plans to have speakers such as Dr. Michael Kaufman, physical therapists, Tai Chi demonstrations, and other areas that may be of help in dealing with this disease.
The first meeting will be March 9 at the home of Cathey Pinson, 4474 Island Fords Road in Lake Wylie, from 10 a.m. to noon. Her home is on the water amid her beautiful gardens. It will be a casual meeting to discuss plans for future meetings. This is an opportunity to meet other people suffering from the myriad effects of MS and exchange information with one another.

Siren test scheduled
at Lake Wylie
YORK Officials at Catawba Nuclear Station will sound one siren on at 11:50 a.m. Feb. 27 in the area of Oakridge Middle School and Bethel Fire Department, off S.C. 557.
This test is in addition to the normal siren tests listed in the 2013 Catawba emergency planning calendar.
The siren will sound for about three minutes. No public action is necessary.
If this was a real emergency, local radio and television stations would broadcast information and instructions to the public. In the event of severe weather, the siren test will be postponed until a later date.
