LAKE WYLIE The Oakridge Middle Academic Challenge team played two matches Feb. 13. Seventh- and eighth-grade teams won both of their matches against Granard and Ewing middle schools.
The eighth-graders won 130 to 90 against Granard. The OMS eighth-graders beat Ewing 190 to 110. Elizabeth Dalanghe was the top scorer of the Granard match with Jackson Saftner coming in second. Saftner was the top scorer for the match against Ewing. Delanghe came in second in that match.
The seventh-grade team beat Ewing 220 to 80. The top scorer for both matches was Gabriel Patrautano. The second high scorer for the Granard match was Anderson Moore. The second high scorer for the Ewing match was a tie between Moore and Michael D’Agostino.
On Feb. 20, The Academic Challenge team faced a tough Indian Land team. The eighth grade won their match 170 to 150. Top scorer for that game was JD Davidson. The second high scorer for eighth grade was Elizabeth Delanghe.
The seventh grade lost their match. Top scorer was Gabriel Patrautano. Anderson Moore and Michael D’Agostino tied for second high scorer.
to join climate inquiry
CLOVER Nick LaFave, a Clover High School science teacher who is Clover school district’s Teacher of the Year, is one of eight U.S. teachers who will participate in an international inquiry program on climate change in April.
The Inquiry to Insight
project is a collaboration of scientists, educators and media designers at Stanford University and the University of Gothenburg in Sweden who are dedicated to bringing high quality, interactive, free online resources on climate change and ocean acidification into the classroom.
LaFave will be joining seven other U.S. teachers, the I2I project staff and partner teachers from Sweden during an April 14 summit after the National Science Teachers Association conference in San Antonio, Texas.
Clover schools registration set
CLOVER Clover School District pre-kindergarten and kindergarten registration is scheduled for the week of March 4. Parents should register their children at their current elementary school assignment based on the 2012-13 attendance lines.
Parents may register children at Bethany, Bethel, Griggs Road, Kinard and Larne from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 4-8. Registration hours at Crowders Creek are 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. March 4-8.
All six elementary schools will have an evening registration period 3-6 p.m. March 5.
To be eligible for pre-K, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2013. To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2013.
Parents should bring the child’s legal birth certificate copy with the state seal, two proofs of residency with the name and address of the parent registering the child, and up-to-date immunization records when registering.

PES musical on stage two nights
STEELE CREEK Palisades Episcopal School will perform the musical “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, March 7-8, at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, 15000 York Road.

Apply for volunteerism scholarship
ROCK HILL Applications are being accepted by Family Trust Federal Credit Union for its Eddie Reeves Volunteerism Scholarship.
The $1,000 scholarship is given to a Family Trust member of any age who is an exemplary volunteer.
The award will be announced at the credit union’s annual meeting April 9.
The scholarship is named for Eddie Reeves, a credit union volunteer for more than 30 years who served as board chairman for 25 years.
The deadline to apply is Saturday, March 9.

Band, guard competition Saturday
CLOVER For the third year in a row, the Indoor Drumline percussion and Winter Guard dance competition returns to Clover High School from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 9.
The CHS Indoor Drumline and Winter Guard will be one of at least 16 schools competing.
Twelve contests are held statewide between late January and late March leading up to the CIPA Guard and Percussion Championships in early April at Western Carolina University.
Tickets can be purchased at the door for $8.

CLOVER Clover Athletic Booster Club’s annual Pine Needle sale will be held March 22-23.
Costs is $4.50 per bale for long-leaf needles, with free delivery for 25 or more bales.
