Women’s Bible study begins March 8 at Scherer Presbyterian in Lake Wylie

Scherer Presbyterian Church, 4800 Charlotte Hwy., holds Friday Women’s Bible Study from 10 to 11:30 a.m. beginning March 8, focusing on the study of 2 Timothy.

All women are welcome to attend. In addition to the study, the group goes to lunch once a month. Free child care is provided; registration required. Call 803-831-7133.

Temple Solel, a Reform Jewish congregation, is holding Shabbat Services at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, in the Ministry Building.

Scholarship applications available

River Hills Community Church Foundation Scholarship Fund is offering a $1,000 scholarship to any student in the Clover School District, including home-schooled.

Seniors who will attend college in fall 2013, have Christian beliefs and 3.0 GPA or higher are eligible to apply.

Applications are available at Clover High School or the church office, 104 Hamilton’s Ferry Road. Deadline to apply is March 30.

Church hosts free exercise classes

Free exercises classes are offered Mondays at Christ the King Church, 13501 S. Tryon St.

Class is taught by Kathryn Webner, registered nurse, health fitness specialist and a personal trainer.

The Beginner Strength & Conditioning Class is from 5:30 to 6 p.m. targeting balance, endurance and improved muscular strength. This class is appropriate for seniors, the non- exerciser, or someone recovering from an injury.

The Group Circuit Class from 6 to 7 p.m. is designed to improve total body strength and cardiovascular fitness. This class if offered for all fitness levels, 12 years and older. Bring a mat, towel and water.

‘Truth’ film series begins March 23

A monthly film/documentary series entitled “Speaking Truth to Power, the justice series” begins at 7 p.m. March 23 with “What a Way to Go: Life at the End of Empire” at Unity of Charlotte, 401 E. Arrowood Road,

Moderated by Dr. Cornell West, who will speak on “Justice is Love in the physical,” the movie traces the roots of Empire building until the current grim realities of the modern world, economically, politically and environmentally. This series is intended to stimulate informed dialogue in our community. Discussion with a moderator will follow each movie.

Singles groups meeting

New River Community Church is holding two singles groups, both meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesdays.

• FUSION is for anyone out of high school to age 24. The group meets at a member home in York. Singles can build friendships through studying God’s Word together, serving in the community, having fun, and discussing challenges of life.

Singles Gatherings is for adults ages 25 and older. The group meets at the church, 133 Carroll Cove Road. Connection and Bible study are the primary focuses. Child care is provided for children 10 and younger.

Church offering new contemporary service

Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 9601 S. Tryon St., is offering a new contemporary service, Crossroads, every third Sunday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Family Life Center.

The Refresh praise band provides upbeat music.

Learn to tango Wednesdays

St. John’s Church, 321 S. Oakland Ave., is offering American Tango lessons at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, through March 20 .

Josh Love, owner and professional dance instructor at J’Adore Ballroom in Charlotte, will offer lessons in basic American Tango.

Scherer hosts moms

Scherer Presbyterian Church, 4800 Charlotte Hwy., hosts REST4Moms from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the second Tuesday of the month.

Mothers begin the morning with coffee, tea and goodies, followed by topics of interest, crafts, conversation and discussion. Children are treated to crafts, snacks and playtime. Annual cost is $10.
