• On March 5, the OMS Lady Golden Eagles soccer team traveled to Springfield for the first match of the season, which ended in a 1-1 draw. After a scoreless first half, Springfield scored off a penalty kick at the 17:00 mark. Goalie Sydney Combs had a wonderful stop, but the rebound went to the host and they were able to score. OMS was able to respond five minutes later on a rebound goal from Janelle Taliaferro. The Lady Golden Eagles stayed on the attack in the second half but were unable to pull ahead from a tough Lady Mustang defense. Leah Endean and Sara Barr provided hustle throughout the game and Elizabeth East, Krystal Nielson, Sydney Combs and Haley Stewart paced the defense.
On March 7, the OMS Lady Golden Eagles soccer team tied Fort Mill 0-0 in a defensive battle. Sara Barr, J’Menii Isaac and Kaidyn Nadolny held the back line and had many chances to score, missing the goal by inches. The defense was led by Sarah Avery Archer and Leah Endean. OMS’ record stands at 0-0-2.
• On March 7, OMS bounced back from a tough loss, to take on another neighboring town rival, Fort Mill. The scoring started quickly with a goal by Parker Largen in the first three minutes. A beautiful cross came in from Ashanti Long, who was then passed by Buddy Curtin to Parker Largen who finished it strong. This was followed by a great effort from Brandon LaForge to finish the second goal Parker assisted. The game settled down until Fort Mill scored off a mishap in the back. The second half started off quickly again as LaForge finished off of a shot from Long that he worked hard to get. The last goal was a finish again by LaForge. The freshly built defense played strong with Matt Ringler organizing the defense.
