Police: Lake Wylie mom bought pot for teen daughter

A Lake Wylie mother is behind bars, charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, after deputies say she paid for and planned to smoke pot with her teenage daughter last week.
By Monday morning, bond hadn’t been set for 36-year-old Jennifer Romero, who according to a York County Sheriff’s report bought pot with her 14-year-old daughter and her son’s girlfriend at the tennis courts near Elizabeth Valley Lane.
On Sunday, the girl’s father called police, claiming Romero allowed their daughter to smoke the drug, the report states. Romero told deputies that she never bought the pot, although her son’s girlfriend said she overheard Romero and the girl talk about buying marijuana to bake into a pan of brownies to experience getting high last Thursday.
The girlfriend said she thought they were joking and said that smoking pot in the house would leave behind a lingering smell, the report states.
According to the report, Romero, her daughter and her son’s girlfriend drove to McDowell Park in Charlotte after buying the pot with plans to smoke it. The girlfriend said Romero paid $10 for the marijuana.
The teenage girl told police that she’s been facing peer pressure at school and spoke with her mother about it, the report states. According to the girl, Romero knew her daughter was going to try the pot and preferred that the girl smoked it with her so she wouldn’t be unsupervised.
Romero confirmed her daughter’s story. She was arrested because she took her daughter with her to buy the drug with “the intentions of providing it to her at a later time,” the report states.
