When Hannah Mixer of Lake Wylie was getting ready Feb. 1 to go to school, all she was looking forward to was the pep rally that afternoon. She had no clue she would be awarded the Queens University Presidential Scholarship.
“I had no idea it was coming,” said Hannah, a senior at Charlotte Catholic High School. “When I saw the Queens University Scholarship representative in the guidance counselor’s office, my jaw hit the floor. I was completely shocked.”
The Presidential Scholarship is a four-year, merit-based scholarship based on a student’s academic and community achievements. Out of more than 200 students who traveled to Queens University for in-person interviews, Hannah is one of a handful to receive the Presidential Scholarship.
“I am so grateful for this scholarship. I toured several schools, but none felt the same to me as Queens. I totally fell in love with it and it was the only school to which I applied,” she said.
Hannah, daughter of Tom and Debbie Mixer, will start at Queens University in the fall. She plans to live on campus and major in nursing.
