Report: Clover man threw ashtray at live-in girlfriend

CLOVER -- 

A Clover man faces charges for criminal domestic violence after his live-in girlfriend reported to police that he threw food around in the kitchen and then at her before tossing an ashtray at her face Sunday.

The 40-year-old man was released from the York County Detention Center on a $2,130 bond Monday with the condition that he can have no contact with his girlfriend until they appear before a judge, court records show.

At about 8 p.m., police met with the woman, 47, who said that she and the man were grilling outside and drinking, according to a York County Sheriff’s report. She said her boyfriend became upset and started throwing food around the kitchen and then at her.

He then threw an ashtray at her face, leaving her with redness on her face and ashes on her face, nose and clothes, the report states. She said she left the house and ran to her brother’s store for help, while the man fled from the house.

Deputies found the man, who said he and his girlfriend had a “food fight,” during which she threw pasta salad at him and he threw a hamburger bun at her, the report states. The girlfriend denied throwing anything at her boyfriend, though police could see stains on the front of his shirt.

The boyfriend was unable to explain how the woman got ashes on her clothes, according to the report. He was placed under arrest and taken to jail.
