Shoot for cancer benefit set for March 23
GASTONIA, N.C. The Water Tank’s “Bucks for Baldness” Cancer Benefit Clay Pigeon Shoot will start at 11 a.m. March 23 at 5732 Crawford Road.
Cost is $20 per shooter, includes shells and clays.
Winner takes half the pot. The rest goes to the charity.

‘Swamp People’
to be at
Columbia’s Classic
COLUMBIA The 29th annual Palmetto Sportsman’s Classic will be March 22-24 at S.C. State Fairgrounds.
The event features R.J. and Jay Paul Molinere from the History Channel’s “Swamp People,” and the Muzzy 200 Club Monster Bucks display.

Boating Infrastructure grant workshop March 20
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources, in partnership with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, will be administering the National Boating Infrastructure Grant Program in South Carolina.
The BIG program provides grant funding to construct, renovate and maintain tie-up facilities with features for transient boaters in vessels 26 feet or more in length.
Examples of eligible infrastructure that may be funded include floating docks, fixed piers, breakwaters, fueling stations and dockside utilities.
In an effort to educate and inform potential grant recipients on the goals of the program, grantee eligibility, program deadlines and allowable projects, the DNR will be hosting a Boating Infrastructure Grant Workshop o from 2 to 5 p.m. March 20 at the DNR’s Marine Center, Ft. Johnson in Charleston.
Although the workshop is free, registration is required online at dnr.sc.gov.
Youth championship March 23 on Murray
The first S.C. Department of Natural Resources Youth Bass Fishing Championship will be held March 23 on Lake Murray, with the weigh-in at the Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic at the S.C. State Fairgrounds in the Nutt Cattle Arena.
Youth anglers in middle and high school can send up to six anglers to fish in two-man teams. Each team will share their boat with an adult volunteer.
There will be a title for the winning middle school and high school, as well as the biggest fish for an individual in the middle and high school categories.
Winners will be determined by the total weight combined of each of the three two-man teams sent per school.
Trophies will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place winning middle and high schools.
Biggest fish awards will be given to one middle schooler and one high schooler. The top ranked high school two-man team with the heaviest bag of fish for the tournament will receive scholarship money.
Interested in forming a bass fishing club at your school? All you need to do is six students (ages 11-18) with dues paid to create a Youth Bass Fishing Club.
You’ll also need an adult at the school to help lead the club, provide advice and help arrange at least two club tournaments, fundraisers, speakers and other learning sessions pertaining to fishing for club meetings.

CHARLESTON The South Carolina Marine Association will host the annual In-Water Boat Show April 12-14 at Daniel Island’s Waterfront Park in Charleston.
There will be boats in the water, boats on land, watercraft of all dimensions, marine education and safety exhibits, children’s activities and entertainment.

Anglers invited
to Fish for Cure April 5
LAKE WYLIE The Thursday Night Tournament Trail is hosting the third annual Fishing for a Cure Breast Cancer Awareness fishing tournament from 6:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. April 5.
This tournament raises money for the western York County Relay For Life Breast Cancer Awareness.
The team captains are Stamie Hersheyman, Connie Garvin, Clair Britt and Elizabeth Scheafer.
The tournament is open to everyone.
Entry fee costs $75 with $25 going to the charity and $50 to the purse. There will be a $10 Big Fish option.
