Oakridge Middle School softball team wins in dominant fashion

The Golden Eagles softball team dominated Springfield March 21, defeating them 11-1 in six innings. Springfield couldn’t get anything going so long as Kayla Ogle was in the circle. Ogle gave up just two hits, allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out seven during her six innings of work. The Golden Eagles pounded Springfield pitching, as six hitters combined for 10 hits and seven RBIs. Leading the team offensively were: Madi MacNeil, 3 for 4, tripled, 3 RBI; Michelle Aragon, 2 for 3, 2 runs, 2 RBI; Kayla Ogle, 3 singles, 1 run; and Lilly Wallace, 2 for 4, including a triple.

Baseball

• On March 20, despite a strong offensive performance by the team, the Oakridge Middle School baseball came up short against Clover 13-11.Hitting well for OMS were: AJ Nicholas, 3 singles; Cole Hybarger, 1 single and 1 home run; Tanner Tolson, 1 single and 1 home run; Hayden Milley, 1 home run; and Timmy Parker, 2 home runs.

• On March21, the OMS baseball team bounced back and beat Banks Trail 11-6. This was a team effort offensively and defensively. Kyle Kalick earned the win on the mound throwing for 4 2/3s innings, while Graham Whitesides earned a big save throwing for 2 1/3s innings. Stellar defense by Cole Hybarger helped to spark the team. Hitting well for OMS were: Kyle Kalick, 3 singles; Bryan Van Scoyoc, put down a critical sacrifice bunt and earned 3 walks; Cole Hybarger, 3 singles; Timmy Parker, 3 singles; and Cameron Reid, 2 singles.

Soccer

• The OMS Lady Golden Eagles soccer team defeated Banks Trail on March 21, 1-0. After a scoreless first half, Kaidyn Nadolny scored on a deflected rebound within the first four minutes of the second half to secure the lone goal. Offensively, OMS was led by the constant attack of Nadolny, Sara Barr and Samantha Hybarger. J’Menii Isaac and Janelle Taliaferro controlled the middle of the field both offensively and defensively. Erika Drutis had multiple outstanding saves in goal to preserve the win. At the halfway point, the Lady Golden Eagles are in first place in the conference.

• On March 21, with only three substitutes available for the match, the Oakridge boys soccer team pull out a victory 2-1 over Banks Trail. Parker Largen got an assist and a goal. Gavin Shepard scored as well. Hunter Knight and Joe Glover controlled the goal. Dylan Pridgen played well at stopper. The Golden Eagles are now 3-1-1.

Track

• On March 21 the Oakridge Middle School boys and girls track team competed in a three-way meet at Dutchman’s Creek. The boys finished second and the girls third. Scoring points for the Golden Eagles were:

• Second place: Girls 4x100 - 1:02.00; Boys 4x100 ( Omari Adams, Charlie Hoffman, Julian Williams) - 52.65; Jessie Defalco - 1600, 6:30; Ben Clark - 1600, 5:37.0; Daniela Ariza - 400, 1:15.85; AJ Fulmore - 400, 1:01.87; Boys sprint medley ( Elijah Robinson, James Westergarde, William Emory, Wyatt Emory) - 2:02; Ben Clark - 800,2:30.81; Boys 4x400 ( Charlie Hoffman, Andrew George, Blake Watson, AJ Fulmore); Joelle Keffer - shot put - 28 feet ; William Emory - long jump, 16 feet; Austin Malcolm, discus, 99 feet

• Third place: Chloe Crank - 200, 31.53; Cameron Marvin - 1600, 5:45.10; Rhagney Cassie- 100, 12.75; Rhagney Cassie - 200, 26.97
