Oakridge Middle softball team dominating season

Softball

• The Oakridge Middle School softball team dominated Gold Hill March 26, 22-0. Oakridge jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first inning. Kayla Ogle threw a no hitter while striking out 10. Pacing the Lady Eagles on offense were: Melia Venezia - 2 for 3, 2 Doubles, 4 RBI; Lilly Wallace - 3 for 5, 2 Doubles, 4 RBI; Brooklyn Thomas - 2 for 4, Doubled, 3 RBI; and Kayla Ogle - 3 for 3, 3 RBI. The Lady Eagles are 4-0 in conference (9-0 overall) and sits in first place in the Eastern Division.

• The team Oakridge beat a solid Gaston Christian team March 25, 13-0. Melia Venezia allowed one hit and struck out eight in her complete game shutout. Leading the way offensively were: Kayla Ogle - 3 for 5, 2 runs, 5 RBI; Casey Eagan - 2 for 4, 1 run; and Danielle Bonner - 1 for 3, 2 runs, 1 RBI.

Baseball

• The Oakridge Middle School baseball team dropped two games to Gold Hill Middle School March 27. In game one of the double header, the Golden Eagles played strong offensively, but committed a few key errors. The team ran out of time to complete their comeback losing 7-6. Standing out for the team were Cole Hybarger - single, double and 1 RBI; Timmy Parker - double, 2 RBI; Tanner Tolson - two singles, 1 RBI; and Brandon Johnson - single, 1 RBI.

In game two, the team started off strong. However, in the bottom of the fourth inning errors caused the Golden Eagles to fall behind 6-1. Standing out in the second game were Cole Hybarger - double, Bryan Van Scoyoc - single, and Cameron Reid - single.

Soccer

• The Oakridge Middle School Lady Golden Eagles soccer team suffered their first loss of the season March 27 falling to Springfield, 3-1. OMS got the scoring started early in the first half on a header by Sara Barr with an outstanding assist by Amber Looysen. The Lady Golden Eagles controlled the first half with wonderful play by Janelle Taliferro and Angie Pantuosco on offense.

However, the second half, Springfield scored a goal in the first 30 seconds and another one at the 10 minute mark. Barr, Kaidyn Nadolny and Sam Hybarger kept the attack going, but were not able to secure the equalizer goals. OMS is in second place with key match-ups right out of the chute.

• The OMS boys’ soccer team remain undefeated at home scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes to tie first place Springfield 2-2. Buddy Curtin stole the ball and passed it to Ashanti Long who scored. Parker Largen scored a 40-yard blast and tied the game as time ran out.

• On March 26, the OMS boys’ soccer team took down rival Clover by a score of 6-1. Joe Glover and Austin Gunnels took control of the goal. Glover even assisted Ashanti Long in one of the six goals. Ben Vogt scored and assisted as well.

Zach Wallert scored two goals, including a beautiful header with a Long assist. Parker Largen also recorded an assist to a goal by Gavin Shepard. Hunter Walden assisted another goal by Buddy Curtin.

Track

The OMS Lady Golden Eagles placed third in a March 27 meet. Scoring for the Golden Eagles were:

• First: Joelle Keffer- discus and shot put; Rhianon Plummer - long jump

• Second: Daniela Ariza - 400m, 4x400 relay team; Nautica Hughes - discus

• Third: Chloe Crank - 100m; Jennifer Ramsey - 400m, sprint medley; Nautica Hughes - shot put; Chloe Crank - high jump

The OMS boys track team finished second in a three-team meet. Scoring were:

• First: Austin Malcolm - discus, spring medley

• Second: AJ Fulmore - 400m, 4x400 Relay; William Emory - long jump

• Third: Rhagney Cassie - 100m, 200m; William and Wyatt Emory - high jump; Blake Watson - 400m

• Fourth: Julian Williams - 100m, 200m; Mac McGarity - discus
