LAKE WYLIE Lake Wylie Athletic Association Minors Baseball game results:
• Braves 7, Phillies 5. The Braves were lead by strong starting pitching from Gabe Carroll. Aggressive base running and a couple of timely hits from Kenny Byrd and Jacob Hoopingarner put the Braves out in front. Ayden Sabol made a diving catch in short right field to save a run and Braden Peters pitched a terrific last inning to save the game. The Phillies got some timely pitching from Nolan Will to hold the Braves and make the game close in the late innings.
• Nationals 5, Newport 5. On a cold opening night, both teams played a tight game from the start and had a real pitcher’s dual going all the way to the last out in the fifth inning. Newport’s two pitchers (Carson and Grayson) combined to allow just four hits with 12 Ks while the three National’s pitchers ( Taylor Sprinkle, Caleb Cox and Joey Hylinski) combined to pitch a no hitter with 15 Ks. The Nationals were led offensively by Caleb Cox (2 singles, run scored and an RBI) and Jack Killelea (double, walk, 2 runs scored and an RBI). Sean McMahon had the other hit for the Nationals.
