The next luncheon of the River Hills Women’s Club will be held Wednesday, April 17, at River Hills Country Club.

Olivia Fortson, reporter for the Charlotte Observer’s “Scene and Heard” column, will talk about party tips.

Cocktails and sign-in begin at noon, with lunch served at 12:30 p.m. and program following at 1 p.m.

Ballroom dance group meets Friday

The Ballroom Dance Club will meet 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, at the Country Club Golf House, 101 Country Club Drive.

All adult ages and skill levels are invited for social ballroom dancing to music by DJ Rich Brausch. Dress code is dressy casual, no jeans or boots. Dances are alcohol free; beverages provided.

Optimists serving barbecue Saturday

The Clover Optimist Club will hold a barbecue sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, near Killians Service Center, Highway 55.

Pork plates cost $8 and include barbecue, bun, slaw, chips and cookie. Sandwich with chips costs $4. A 5-lb. bucket costs $30. Drinks cost $1. $1 from each plate goes to the Lee Killian Medical Fund. The Clover Rescue Squad will be there to offer blood pressure checks.

Master Gardeners plant sale Saturday-Sunday

The Master Gardeners of York County annual Spring Plant Sale will be held be Saturday and Sunday, April 20-22, at the Glencairn Gardens Learning Center, 825 Edgemont Ave.

Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

There will be bulbs, perennials, shrubs, vines, herbs and vegetables priced from $1 to $10.

The plants are donated by members of the MGYC Association and are inspected by a certified plant inspector. Each plant will be labeled with the scientific and common names. Master gardeners will be available to answer questions about soil, plant spacing and other gardening questions.

Unsold plants will be available for purchase at the Museum of York County’s Earth Day Birthday event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 27.

Proceeds are used to support MGYC education and community service projects.

Lions announce June 17 golf tourney

The River Hills Lions Club’s annual Memorial Celebration Golf Tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. June 17 at River Hills Country Club.

Registration and lunch start at 11 a.m.

There will be an awards dinner and “skill” contests at 5:30 p.m.

Tournament entry fee is $125 per player if paid by Saturday, April 20. Price includes greens fee, cart, practice range, lunch and prizes.

Contests include putting and hole-in-one, as well as two skills contests of distance and accuracy for three shots at $10.

Learn about Rotary leadership April 23

Georgia Oakes, Rotary Leadership Institute facilitator, will speak at the noon April 23 Lake Wylie Rotary Club meeting at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 5220 Crowders Cove Lane.

Upcoming speakers include: Laurie Helms and Thad Fisher from the Rock Hill Outdoor Center and Giordana Velodrome.

Lake Wylie home tour April 27

The 28th annual Clover/Lake Wylie Home and Garden Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27, sponsored by Clover/Lake Wylie Republican Women’s Club.

This year’s them is “Living Leisurely in Lake Wylie,” reflecting the homes and gardens featuring spacious designs with room for relaxation, entertainment and recreation.

Proceeds go to a $2,500 scholarship for a qualified Clover High School senior.

There also will be a $15 per person buffet luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at River Hills Country Club that will include a fashion show presented by Chico’s and men’s wear from the golf shop.

Tickets cost $20 per person, available in advance at The Cleaners, Lake Wylie Plaza, and at River Hills Plantation front gate the day of the event. Luncheon tickets will be available in the dining room of the club on the day of the tour. Call 803-831-7543 or 803-831-8278 for more information.

Local SAR chapter holds elections

Col. William Bratton Chapter South Carolina Society – Sons of the American Revolution elected officers at the April 3 meeting.

Elected are Murray White, president; Brett Reed, secretary/treasurer; Gene Armstrong, registrar/genealogist.

At the state convention in Columbia on April 6, two local members, past president Greg Greenawalt was elected vice president of the upstate region and past president John Marker was elected state genealogist.

The Col. William Bratton Chapter serves York, Lancaster and Chester counties.

The next meeting will be held 9:30-11:30 a.m. May 18 at Fort Mill VFW, 1442 Harris Road, Fort Mill. Meetings are open to the public.

New 4-H club forming

The Clemson Extension Service York County 4-H will sponsor a new 4-H Community Club at Academy Christian School in Rock Hill. Focus areas for the club will be livestock and gardening projects.

The club will meet after school once a month at the school on 129 Border Road. Wendy Lipe will be the club leader. Interested youth must register as 4-H member with a $10 membership fee and a $1 insurance fee.

Sweet Repeat seeks volunteers, members

Sweet Repeat Charitable Foundation seeks volunteers for two to six hours a month to work at the Sweet Repeat Shop at Lake Wylie Plaza behind Fred’s.
