Mother’s day event at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., May 11, 6500 S. New Hope Road, Belmont. All moms receive free admission, and the first 250 mothers receive a potted plant. Stroll through the garden and enjoy complimentary 30-minute Yoga sessions in the White Garden every hour beginning at 10 a.m. And sample teas from Savannah’s Tea Room, butter mints by Gayle’s Gourmet and try a locally-made personal care line of shower gels, bath salts and more, by Bayberry Woods. Glen Miller Orchestra

Miller, the band’s first leader and namesake, mysteriously disappeared while traveling with the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band in Europe. His music lives on in the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Catawba Care’s 10th annual Dazzle and Denim: The Diamond Anniversary Party fundraising event, 7-11 p.m. May 17, Magnolia Room at Laurel Creek, Rock Hill. Catawba Care, a not-for-profit, United Way organization, provides medical care and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS and by educating the community to prevent the spread of HIV.
