Lake Wylie Rotary awards Clover High junior with leadership award

April 29, 2013

The Rotary Club of Lake Wylie has awarded Clover High School junior Nicole Huhnke with a Rotary Youth Leadership Award for her outstanding leadership and commitment to community service.

Students who receive the award participate in a weeklong motivational, leadership training, and free enterprise seminar at Erskine College in June.

“One of the great benefits of attending RYLA is the personal growth and development through interaction with both peers and outstanding business, political and community leaders,” said Chad Bordeaux, president of the Lake Wylie club.

Huhnke has been a member of the Clover High School Interact Club for two years and hopes to serve as a club officer next year.

“Through the RYLA experience, I feel I could bring back many new ideas for upcoming years in Clover,” Huhnke said.

Interact is Rotary International’s service club for youth. The Clover High School Interact Club - co-sponsored by both the Lake Wylie and Clover clubs - has 283 students and is the largest club in South Carolina. It recently won two awards at the state Interact Conference for Best Cooperative Project for joining Lake Wylie Rotary Club at Riversweep and Service Before Self Award for the Christmas party it coordinated for the Children’s Attention Home, a joint effort with Lake Wylie and Clover Rotary clubs.
