Marfin wins SUV for hole in one

Alan Marfin of Steele Creek made a hole in one on hole 17 at River Hills Country Club during the Shriners Hospital Golf Classic. He won a 2013 Chevy Equinox SUV from Fred Caldwell Chevrolet.

Marfin is a Shriner and director of the Red Fez Club. He was playing in Mike Grubb’s foursome.

Lake Wylie duo wins Charlotte tourney

Tom Bookmiller and Harold Fisher of Lake Wylie won Flight A 6,344 yards division for Carolinas Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball Tournament on April 22 at TPC Piper Glen. First gross score was 39-36 - 75.

Tournament format was 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net.

Church tourney May 11 in Rock Hill

Pleasant Hill Church’s annual golf tournament will be May 11 at Waterford Golf Course in Rock Hill.

Play for children June 7

The Gene Knight “Play for the Child” Golf Tournament will be June 7 at Spring Lake Country Club.

Registration is at 9:30 a.m. with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. Prizes are at 4 p.m.

Entry fee costs $100 per person, which includes greens fee, cart, flight prizes, two mulligans, two closest to the pin, barbecue and a York Place golf shirt.

State tournament May 17-19 in Fort Mill

Bonzini USA Foosball, in partnership with the South Carolina Foosball Players Association and Rock Hill/York County Convention & Visitors Bureau, will be hosting the fifth annual South Carolina State Foosball Championships May 17-19 at Beef ’O’Brady’s.

The S.C. Shockers 13U baseball team is looking for players for the summer season. There is a 10- to 11-player max roster, so all the players will get ample playing time.

Red Sox vs. A’s

Lake Wylie Athletic Association’s A’s took on the Red Sox in tee ball April 23. Great effort was shown in the field by both teams. For the A’s, Lily Larkin had a booming hit down the third-base line, Crosby Fite hit one in the air to the outfield, and Mark Anthony Cook had a fantastic stop at first base. The Red Sox were fabulous at the plate. Brooks Johnson made great contact with the ball for a double, and William Dittl followed with a hit into the outfield.


Join Fun 4 Four tourney

Registration is open for the Fun 4 Four tennis tournament at River Hills Country Club being held May 31-June 2. You do not have to be a member of River Hills Country Club to play. Format is team of four players (two men and two women).

Play men’s doubles, ladies doubles and two mixed doubles matches. Play each team in your flight - 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0 or 8.5/9.0. Each doubles will be a regular set with a tiebreaker at 5-5.

Cost is $55 per person and includes complimentary lunch each day, beverages, tournament T-shirt and prizes for top team in each flight. Applications are available at Call 803-831-1493 for more information.


Doughnut Dash May 11 in Charlotte

24 Hours of Booty Inc. will be the beneficiary of the inaugural Krispy Kreme Doughnut Dash starting at 7:30 a.m. May 11 in Charlotte.

The 4.8-mile race starts and ends on Greenwich Drive in Cotswold, near the Krispy Kreme on 119 N. Sharon Amity Road.

During this non-sanctioned 4.8-mile run/walk, participants have the option of signing up as a competitive or recreational runner. All runners will run the first 2.26 miles. At this point, the competitive runners will eat a dozen doughnuts, and then continue the final 2.54 miles to the finish. The recreational runners may eat as many or few doughnuts as they want, take the rest home to enjoy or elect, at the time of their registration, to donate their doughnuts to the cancer centers.

Registration costs $35 through May 8. There is no event-day registration. Visit Proceeds support the 24 Hours of Booty charity cycling event to fight cancer.

Cannoli Run May 18 in Fort Mill

The first Cannoli Run will begin at 8:30 a.m. May 18 at St. Philip Neri Church during the 18th annual Italian Festival. Half of the proceeds will go to Fort Mill Care Center.

Trophied divisions are senior 60 and older, adult 16 to 59 and junior 7 to 15.

Cost is $25 for adults, $15 for seniors. Advance registration includes T-shirt and gift bag.

The 1-mile family fun run is a $5 donation.

The 100-yard dash is free with prizes for children ages 6 and younger.

Splash Dash June 8 at Wylie

The Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce’s Splash Dash 10K and 5K will be June 8 at River Hills Plantation.

The races begin at 8 a.m. CMC-Steele Creek is the premiere sponsor.

The second annual Carolina Thread Trail’s Thread The Thread Twilight 5K Trail Race & Fun Run will be held at 6 p.m. May 18 at Anne Springs Close Greenway.

This event includes a 5K race or 1-mile fun run for all ages, along with an after party.

There are 250 spots for the 5K. Cost is $30 through May 16, or $35 race day.

The 1-mile run/walk costs $15 through May 11, or $20 race day.

Join Piranhas

The Palisades Piranhas swim team is holding registration through Monday, May 6. Swimmers must be 18 or younger as of June 1 and be able to swim the length of the pool to be eligible. The team’s new head coach is Cynthia Roeth. Costs is $100 for club members, and $75 for each additional sibling; or $125 for non-club members, and $100 for each sibling.
