Marfin wins SUV for hole in one
LAKE WYLIE Alan Marfin of Steele Creek made a hole in one on hole 17 at River Hills Country Club during the Shriners Hospital Golf Classic. He won a 2013 Chevy Equinox SUV from Fred Caldwell Chevrolet.
Marfin is a Shriner and director of the Red Fez Club. He was playing in Mike Grubb’s foursome.
Lake Wylie duo wins Charlotte tourney
CHARLOTTE Tom Bookmiller and Harold Fisher of Lake Wylie won Flight A 6,344 yards division for Carolinas Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball Tournament on April 22 at TPC Piper Glen. First gross score was 39-36 - 75.
Tournament format was 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net.

Red Sox vs. A’s
LAKE WYLIE Lake Wylie Athletic Association’s A’s took on the Red Sox in tee ball April 23. Great effort was shown in the field by both teams. For the A’s, Lily Larkin had a booming hit down the third-base line, Crosby Fite hit one in the air to the outfield, and Mark Anthony Cook had a fantastic stop at first base. The Red Sox were fabulous at the plate. Brooks Johnson made great contact with the ball for a double, and William Dittl followed with a hit into the outfield.
Join Fun 4 Four tourney
LAKE WYLIE Registration is open for the Fun 4 Four tennis tournament at River Hills Country Club being held May 31-June 2. You do not have to be a member of River Hills Country Club to play. Format is team of four players (two men and two women).
Play men’s doubles, ladies doubles and two mixed doubles matches. Play each team in your flight - 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0 or 8.5/9.0. Each doubles will be a regular set with a tiebreaker at 5-5.

Doughnut Dash May 11 in Charlotte
CHARLOTTE 24 Hours of Booty Inc. will be the beneficiary of the inaugural Krispy Kreme Doughnut Dash starting at 7:30 a.m. May 11 in Charlotte.
The 4.8-mile race starts and ends on Greenwich Drive in Cotswold, near the Krispy Kreme on 119 N. Sharon Amity Road.
During this non-sanctioned 4.8-mile run/walk, participants have the option of signing up as a competitive or recreational runner. All runners will run the first 2.26 miles. At this point, the competitive runners will eat a dozen doughnuts, and then continue the final 2.54 miles to the finish. The recreational runners may eat as many or few doughnuts as they want, take the rest home to enjoy or elect, at the time of their registration, to donate their doughnuts to the cancer centers.

Cannoli Run May 18 in Fort Mill
FORT MILL The first Cannoli Run will begin at 8:30 a.m. May 18 at St. Philip Neri Church during the 18th annual Italian Festival. Half of the proceeds will go to Fort Mill Care Center.
Trophied divisions are senior 60 and older, adult 16 to 59 and junior 7 to 15.
Cost is $25 for adults, $15 for seniors. Advance registration includes T-shirt and gift bag.
The 1-mile family fun run is a $5 donation.
The 100-yard dash is free with prizes for children ages 6 and younger.

FORT MILL The second annual Carolina Thread Trail’s Thread The Thread Twilight 5K Trail Race & Fun Run will be held at 6 p.m. May 18 at Anne Springs Close Greenway.
